Tom has over thirty years of IP law experience, both corporate and outside counsel. Tom’s practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution; opinions, including non-infringement and invalidity opinions; transactional work, including licensing-in, licensing-out, CRADA, and joint development agreements.
Chairperson of DuPont Co. U.S. Patent Practice committee, including providing numerous presentations on updates in patent law and reviewing proposed patent law changes for chief patent counsel.
Reviewed and maintained clients’ patent estates in their field of endeavor, researched competitors’ patent estates and advised on possible paths forward to block competitors’ access to clients’ markets.
Drafted and prosecuted patent applications for advanced nonwoven fabrics, and provided freedom-to-operate study for an $80 million capital investment to produce these fabrics. Negotiated and concluded patent licenses and technology acquisitions to further this and other nonwoven fabric products and processes.
